Future Fossil

Future Fossil

Future Fossil is an autoradiography combined with a photogram, created with uranium ore samples from active uranium mines from around the globe. The work was created referring to and further developing László Moholy-Nagy’s photograms: Hoffmann came up with the idea of combining the photogram and autoradiography as processes. In cooperation with the Bundesamt für Geowissenschaften und Rohstoffe (German Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources), he created the first ‘photoautoradiograph’ in which a outline drawing of a trilobite fossile was positioned on photosensitive paper with radioactive uranium ore and thus irradiated over several weeks. In a second step finally being illuminated on several spots with daylight inside of the Meisterhaus Muche Schlemmer. The photo auto-radiograph was then framed behind glass that shows a etched outline scetch of the same fossile.
