Totem Habitat is a constantly changing living sculpture, an artificial neolandscape inhabited by firebugs descent from a colony found in the nuclear exclusion zone in chernobyl. Discourses such as the nuclear legacy and the responsible handling of the planet and other species in the age of the anthropocene are areas of focus in interconnected with the work. The Firebugs are known for the visible mutations of their shields’ patterns when exposed to even low doses of radiation such as when close to nuclear power plants. This transforms them into indicators, turns them into readymades technofossils of humankind´s nuclear impact on the planet.
