The work Atlas is comprised of uranium ore sourced from the debris of the recently closed uranium mine, Rožná, in the Vysocina region of southern Bohemia. The mine was closed on December 31st, 2016. The work continues to explore the omnipresent entanglement of nuclear power dynamics in political systems and its highly problematic impacts on the ecosystem of the planet. In Greek mythology, Atlas was a Titan condemned to hold up the celestial heavens forever. In this work, the damaged collum carries the world, a brittle plinth acting as a metaphor and memento of the potential disasters to come. The artwork also functions as a large artificial drill cone, enveloping humankinds radioactive fossils.
